Advocacy

Picture
The HospitalityTN Political Action Committee (HTN PAC) is an unincorporated, non-profit organization supported by the collective interest and generosity of hospitality and tourism industry professionals and related industry friends.

HTN PAC has a very simple and well-defined mission:  to help elect qualified individuals who recognize the importance of the hospitality and tourism industry to Tennessee’s economy and who will give our concerns a fair hearing.  Specifically, it concentrates on the State Legislature and the Governor’s Office.

Through the participation of HospitalityTN members, the PAC gives out around $100,000 annually.  This strength has provided the hospitality industry with an influential voice at the State Capitol. However, each year, especially in election years, HTN PAC distributes tens of thousands of dollars to candidates for statewide office, so we need your continued support.

The contributions made by HTN PAC to these candidates are the first crucial steps in the political process that allow the Tennessee Hospitality & Tourism Association to effectively represent the collective interests of the hospitality and tourism industry in Tennessee.

The Impact of HospitalityTN PAC Contributions

Contributions to the TnHTPAC have impacted many issues, including:
  • Lodging taxes
  • Immigrant employment and seasonal labor
  • Minimum wage
  • Uniform school start date
  • Credit card legislation
  • Tourism marketing
  • The Travel Promotion Act
  • Hotel operations
  • Health/safety, Food and Beverage Legislation
  • Menu labeling
  • Sustainability/social responsibility
  • And many more!

PAC Contributions
State Law allows corporate contributions.  All contributions to HTN PAC are voluntary and are NOT tax deductible for federal income tax purposes.

HospitalityTN has established a Government Relations budget line item.  Some PAC donations may be used for Government Relations expenses and such expenses include those for an advocacy fund, lobbyist fees, and special events.

Both the American Hotel & Lodging Association and National Restaurant Association have established PACs to address the federal and national political and government relations activities.
